Jamie and Bobby Deen built careers alongside their mother, Paula Deen, in her Savannah restaurant business, on television and through cookbooks. In the latest major public change, The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box closed in Savannah on July 31, 2025. Paula Deen said the family would focus on four Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen locations, but did not state why the Savannah restaurants closed.
How Jamie and Bobby Deen got their start
The brothers’ work with Paula began with her catering business, The Bag Lady. After moving to Savannah, she started the home-based operation, and Jamie and Bobby delivered its meals. Paula Deen’s official biography dates the start of those deliveries to June 1989: Paula Deen’s official biography.
Five years after the catering operation began, Paula opened The Lady and Sons with Jamie and Bobby. The restaurant made the family’s collaboration a public-facing business, before their work expanded into television and publishing.
Television and cookbooks
Jamie and Bobby appeared with Paula on her Food Network programs and later hosted their own series, Road Tasted, which debuted in 2006, according to Biography.com. Publisher biographies also describe the brothers’ television work and their involvement in the family restaurant.

Paula thanked customers and staff and said the family would focus on four Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen locations: Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Nashville and Branson. Her statement did not explain why the Savannah restaurants closed. The Associated Press report likewise noted that the public announcement gave no reason, so attributing the closures to a particular cause would go beyond what has been established.
