Paramedic Claudio Bevilacqua was acquitted in 2018 in the case over James Gandolfini’s missing Rolex. La Repubblica reported that the acquittal was because “the act did not exist”; no trial witness had seen Bevilacqua take the watch, and it was never recovered. The earlier claim that he took it while checking Gandolfini’s pulse was an allegation, not an established fact.
What happened in the case?
Gandolfini, the actor known for playing Tony Soprano, died after a fatal heart attack in Rome in June 2013. He collapsed in a hotel bathroom and was taken to hospital. A watch was reported missing after the incident.

By May 2016, news accounts said Bevilacqua, a paramedic who had responded to the incident, was accused in connection with the watch. In March 2018, la Repubblica reported that he had been acquitted because the act did not exist. The report said nobody who testified had seen him take the watch.
Was the Rolex stolen while Bevilacqua took Gandolfini’s pulse?
That detail appeared in trial-era coverage as an allegation: reports said Bevilacqua was accused of taking the watch while checking Gandolfini’s pulse. It was not a proven finding, and the cited account of the trial said no witness had seen him take it. The Daily Beast reported that Bevilacqua was not charged with medical malpractice and was not believed to have impeded efforts to save Gandolfini.

What is known about the missing watch?
A 2013 TMZ report, citing an insurance form and family sources, described the missing item as a Rolex Submariner valued at $3,000. That was the reported value, not an independently verified appraisal or sale price. The insurance form did not identify the precise Submariner type and did not name a suspect.
The cited reporting does not establish exactly when or where the watch disappeared. Trial-era accounts differed or were unclear about whether it went missing in the hotel room or during treatment or transport. La Repubblica reported in 2018 that the watch had never been found.
