Former HGTV hosts took different paths: some kept designing or running businesses, some moved into acting, music, or other television work, and others returned to HGTV in new roles. A few familiar personalities have died. In other words, leaving a show does not necessarily mean leaving television—or the home-design world.
What “former HGTV host” can mean
The phrase can describe someone whose particular show ended, someone who left HGTV, or someone who stepped away from television altogether. Those are different outcomes. The examples below are a selection, not a complete roster of everyone who has hosted an HGTV program; people’s current projects can also change.

Early HGTV personalities who stayed in design or media
Genevieve Gorder
After appearing on TLC’s Trading Spaces, Gorder hosted HGTV’s Dear Genevieve, which ran for 78 episodes, according to House Beautiful’s 2025 profile. The article describes her continuing to work as a New York designer, with wallpaper, rug, and jewelry lines.
Emily Henderson
Henderson won the fifth season of HGTV Design Star and went on to host Secrets from a Stylist and HGTV: On Set. She continued as an interior designer and author. House Beautiful identifies her book Styled as a New York Times bestseller.

Candice Olson
Olson continued design projects and home-decor collections after her HGTV work, according to House Beautiful’s profile. Her path illustrates that a host’s design career can continue outside a regular television series.
David Bromstad
Bromstad won the first season of HGTV Design Star in 2006 and hosted Color Splash. He remained on HGTV as host of My Lottery Dream Home at the time of House Beautiful’s 2025 article—so he is a former host of one show, not someone who had left the network.
Rank #2
Carol Duvall
Duvall hosted a crafts program on HGTV that moved to DIY Network in 2005 and continued there until 2009. She died in 2023, House Beautiful reported.
Suzanne Whang
Whang hosted House Hunters from 1999 to 2007 and continued acting after her hosting tenure. She died in 2019, according to House Beautiful.

What happened to hosts of shows cancelled in 2025?
HGTV cancelled multiple programs in 2025, including Bargain Block, Married to Real Estate, Izzy Does It, Farmhouse Fixer, Battle on the Beach, Christina on the Coast, and The Flipping El Moussas, according to TV Insider’s roundup. The hosts’ next steps were not all the same:
- Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas, Bargain Block: They returned to client projects through NINE Design + Homes. Bynum described the change to client work as a major cultural shift, in a remark TV Insider relayed from his interview with People.
- Shea Hicks-Whitfield, Bargain Block: She continued working as a Detroit real estate agent, TV Insider reported.
- Egypt Sherrod, Married to Real Estate: She continued her design and real estate company. TV Insider quoted her saying the couple planned to pause and either create their next phase or not return to television.
- Jonathan Knight, Farmhouse Fixer: He took a break from renovation shows while performing with New Kids on the Block.
Izzy Battres after Izzy Does It
In a September 29, 2026 report, TVLine quoted Battres’s representative as saying he was focusing on his craft, pursuing an architectural license, and growing Battres Construction and Battres Home & Design. The representative also said Battres served on the pastoral staff of Victory Outreach Church in Huntington Beach and was a licensed minister. TVLine reported that the church said Battres and his wife became ministers in June 2026; those details are attributed to the representative and church.

Flip or Flop is a clear example of a show ending without ending its hosts’ television careers. Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack began the series as married co-hosts in 2013; the show ran for ten seasons and ended in 2022. In 2025, they reunited with El Moussa’s wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, for The Flip Off, the Associated Press reported in its coverage.

The pattern: careers continue in different forms
Former hosts’ stories are not a single “where are they now” outcome. Some continue in design, construction, or real estate; some pursue other media or entertainment work; some remain on HGTV in a different show; and some have died. A cancellation or series finale tells you what happened to that program, but not by itself what happened to the people who made it.
