C.D. Parker was reported dead after an apparent heart attack on a fishing trip, but Walker, Texas Ranger later revealed that he had been murdered: Emile Lavocat poisoned him with ricin. Before that news, the show explained C.D.’s absence by saying he was away on a cruise around the world.
Who was C.D. Parker?
C.D. Parker was a retired Texas Ranger and longtime friend of Cordell Walker. Noble Willingham played the character, who was part of the regular cast through season 7, according to Paramount Global Content and the TV Guide episode guide.

Why did C.D. disappear from the show?
After C.D.’s last on-screen appearance, the story said he had gone on a cruise around the world. That absence also explains why he was not present for Walker and Alex’s wedding. Secondary summaries report that Willingham left the series to run for Congress, but that reason is not established by the cited primary sources.
How did the show explain C.D.’s death?
In “The Avenging Angel,” Walker is told that C.D. died off-screen of an apparent heart attack while on a fishing trip. At that point, the heart attack is presented as the explanation for his death.

What really happened to C.D.?
The series later overturns that account. In “The Final Showdown,” Emile Lavocat reveals that he killed C.D. by poisoning him with ricin; the poisoning had been mistaken for a heart attack. The two-part finale aired on May 19, 2001, according to TV Guide’s episode listing and the episode guide. Listings may package or number the two parts differently, so the on-screen title is the clearest reference.
