Contemporaneous reports in 2018 said Swedish records showed that Tim Bergling, the DJ known as Avicii, left no will and that his parents were to receive his remaining financial estate. Those reports put the estate at about 231 million Swedish kronor, or roughly US$25.5 million at the time, after taxes and debts—not $50 million in cash.
Where did the $50 million figure come from?
Net-worth figures are estimates, not necessarily sums held in cash or amounts passed on through an estate. The available reporting does not establish the precise basis for the $50 million figure. It should not be treated as proof that Bergling’s parents inherited that amount.
In December 2018, Billboard Japan, citing documents obtained by Billboard, and EDM.com, relaying Expressen’s account of Swedish Tax Agency documents, reported an estate figure of about 231 million kronor, equivalent to approximately US$25.5 million at the time. This is secondary reporting about Swedish records, not a direct review of the estate file, and it describes a historical amount after taxes and debts—not a current valuation.
Who inherited Avicii’s estate?
The 2018 reports said Bergling had no will and his parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén, were to inherit his remaining financial estate. The figure reported in that coverage is distinct from a broad net-worth estimate: it does not establish that his parents received $50 million, nor does it describe every asset or later source of income.

What went to the Tim Bergling Foundation?
The foundation says it received significant contributions from Bergling’s estate and continues to receive revenue from Avicii projects. Its statement does not quantify those contributions or say that it received the entire estate. The foundation’s work focuses on mental health and well-being, particularly for young people.
There was also a specific arrangement for the posthumous album TIM. In an April 5, 2019 announcement, Universal Music Canada, speaking for Team Avicii, said: “Avicii’s net proceeds from the album will go to the nonprofit Tim Bergling Foundation and the purposes it will work for, among other things, to prevent mental illness and suicide.” The wording is about net proceeds from that album; it does not say that all gross revenue from Bergling’s music went to the foundation.

What changed when Pophouse acquired part of the catalog?
On September 28, 2022, Pophouse Entertainment announced it had acquired 75% ownership in Avicii’s master recordings and publishing. His family and estate retained 25% and formed a joint venture with Pophouse. The announcement did not disclose the purchase price or a detailed royalty split, so the transaction cannot be used to calculate a current estate value or annual income.
Pophouse said the deal gave Bergling’s parents room to step back from some estate-management work and helped secure the foundation’s long-term finances. Klas Bergling said the agreement was “also securing the Tim Bergling Foundation’s long-term finances,” allowing it to act on commitments including support for young people’s mental health and well-being. That stated goal does not mean the foundation owns the entire catalog or receives every royalty.

What the historical streaming figures do—and do not—show
In its 2022 announcement, Pophouse reported that Avicii had more than 30 million monthly Spotify listeners and nearly 8 billion combined streams for his top ten Spotify tracks. These are figures Pophouse published in 2022, four years after Bergling’s death; they are not current listener counts or a disclosure of royalties earned.

The publicly cited material establishes a reported 2018 estate figure, the foundation’s general account of contributions and project revenue, and the ownership split announced in 2022. Those amounts should not be inferred from the reported $50 million estimate or from historical streaming statistics.
