Was the lawsuit dismissed?
Yes. The plaintiff voluntarily dismissed the civil case with prejudice in February 2025. The dismissal document did not state why she withdrew it, AP reported: AP, February 15, 2025.

A voluntary dismissal with prejudice ends that case and generally prevents the same plaintiff from bringing the same claims again. It is not, by itself, a court ruling that the allegations were true or false. The filing did not provide a reason for the withdrawal.
What did the plaintiff say in 2026?
In a declaration filed in federal court and reported in September 2026, the woman said she had never met Carter and that he had never raped her or engaged in inappropriate conduct toward her. She also said her former lawyers filed the case without an independent investigation, background inquiry, due diligence or corroboration. The declaration arose in the context of Carter’s claims against the woman and her former lawyers. The Guardian reported that Carter dropped the woman from that litigation while continuing to pursue her former lawyers. How should the events be understood?
