Star subsequently praised Von D’s tattoo artistry, but the public record cited here does not establish that the former friends reconciled.
How the friendship and fallout unfolded
A friendship dating to around 2006
People en Español dates Von D and Star’s friendship to around 2006, describing it as a relationship that lasted about a decade. Star launched his makeup line in 2014. People en Español’s retrospective timeline recounts the events that brought the friendship to a public end.
July 2016: Von D ends the friendship publicly
According to People en Español, Von D learned on July 16, 2016, that Betts had not been compensated for design work and confronted Star by text. On July 19, she posted that she no longer wanted to be associated with Star or his brand. Teen Vogue reported that she cited drug use, racism, and bullying as concerns. Those were Von D’s stated reasons and allegations, not findings established by the reporting.
Von D also said she would remove the electric-pink lipstick shade named Jeffree from her collection. That is a historical statement about her plans at the time; the cited coverage does not establish whether the shade is currently available. What was the B.J. Betts logo dispute?
Von D said she had introduced Star to B.J. Betts, a Detroit tattoo artist and graphic designer, and alleged that Betts’s logo work was used on Star’s lipstick caps without payment. The payment claim was Von D’s account; it should not be treated as an independently established finding.
Star disputed her account. In a response described by Metro Times, he said he had considered working with Betts but backed out because he could not afford him at the time. Star also said he later wanted to take care of someone who had worked for hire and helped inspire something. Metro Times’ contemporaneous report covers the competing accounts.

Betts said the matter was resolved
On July 20, 2016, Betts posted: “The matter between myself and Jeffree Star has been amicably resolved and I will have no further comments on the matter.” His statement is the clearest public indication that the dispute between him and Star had been resolved. It does not disclose the terms, and it does not establish that Von D and Star repaired their friendship.

In October 2016, Star praised Von D’s tattoo work in a video and described the drama as dead. Allure quoted him saying, “I would never disrespect Kat’s art,” and, “No matter what happened, no matter what she did to me, I am so proud to be covered by her work.” Those remarks show respect for her artistry; they are not evidence of an apology or renewed friendship. The reporting cited here does not establish that the two reconciled. Allure’s October 28, 2016 report covered Star’s comments.
