What happens in the Season 2 finale?
The final episode, “Shibuya Incident – Gate, Close,” picks up after the catastrophe in Shibuya. Sukuna’s takeover of Yuji and his battle have devastated the area and killed civilians. The incident has consequences well beyond the immediate fight: the sorcerers must respond to a crisis in a city left in ruins. Crunchyroll’s ending explainer describes the destruction and its wider impact.

Yuji and Todo manage to defeat Mahito. But Mahito’s defeat does not end the danger. The person using Geto’s body takes control, absorbs Mahito, and gains access to his cursed technique. The episode listing’s synopsis identifies the figure as the mastermind using Geto’s corpse and notes that Choso begins to realize who he is. Prime Video’s Season 2 listing names the finale and summarizes those developments.
Who is the person in Geto’s body?
The finale makes clear that the figure confronting the sorcerers is not simply Suguru Geto returned. Choso recognizes a deeper connection between the person wearing Geto’s body and his own past. That recognition sets up a shift in Choso’s loyalties toward Yuji’s side, but the episode does not resolve the confrontation or explain every part of the mastermind’s plan.

The distinction matters: Geto’s familiar appearance is part of the mystery, while the person controlling his body is the active threat. Absorbing Mahito gives that figure another dangerous ability just as the Shibuya crisis is far from over.
Why does Gojo’s sealing matter?
Gojo is still sealed when Season 2 ends. His absence changes the balance of power for the sorcerers at the exact moment they are dealing with the devastation in Shibuya and the mastermind’s continuing plan. The finale does not show Gojo being freed or the consequences of his sealing being settled; it leaves the characters facing the fallout without him.

Does Season 2 resolve the Shibuya Incident?
No. Yuji and Todo’s victory over Mahito is a significant immediate result, but the broader crisis remains open. The Shibuya destruction has lasting consequences, the person in Geto’s body remains a threat, and the sorcerers have not stopped the larger plan. Yuki Tsukumo arrives to aid them, but the season ends before the confrontation is resolved.

Anime sequel context: After the finale aired in Japan on December 28, 2023, an anime continuation adapting the Culling Game arc was announced. The finale itself does not adapt or explain the later Culling Game events. Those developments belong to the sequel or manga, not the Season 2 ending.
