Jane’s Addiction’s September 13, 2024 concert in Boston ended shortly after Perry Farrell shoved guitarist Dave Navarro and appeared to swing at him during “Ocean Size.” Crew members intervened. The band canceled its remaining North American tour days later. Later lawsuits brought competing accounts of the conflict, and in December 2025 the members said they had resolved their differences and would pursue separate creative work.
What happened at the Boston concert?
Jane’s Addiction was playing at Leader Bank Pavilion on Friday, September 13, 2024. Footage-based accounts reported by The Independent, The Guardian and Boston.com describe Farrell shouting toward Navarro during “Mountain Song,” then approaching him during “Ocean Size.” Farrell shoved Navarro with his shoulder and appeared to swing at him. Crew members stepped in, and the performance ended shortly afterward.
The Associated Press later described the Boston crowd as about 4,000 people; that is an approximate figure reported by AP, not a venue-certified attendance count.
Why did Jane’s Addiction cancel its tour?
The band first apologized to fans and canceled its next scheduled show in Bridgeport, Connecticut. On September 16, it announced that the rest of its North American tour was canceled. In a statement reported by The Guardian, Navarro, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins cited safety concerns and said they could not reliably deliver performances. Their statement included: “Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative.”

Accounts of what led to the confrontation differ
Etty Lau Farrell said her husband had become frustrated because he felt the stage volume was drowning out his voice; she also said he had tinnitus and a sore throat. This was her explanation, reported by The Guardian and Boston.com, not an independently established account of the cause.
Navarro, Avery and Perkins referred to what they described as a continuing pattern of behavior and safety concerns. Those statements and Farrell’s wife’s explanation offer different perspectives; neither establishes every detail of what led to the onstage encounter.

What did the lawsuits allege?
The Associated Press reported that Navarro, Avery and Perkins sued Farrell and sought at least $10 million. Farrell and his wife filed a countersuit alleging that Navarro and Avery were responsible for violence and that the bandmates had bullied Farrell. Farrell’s suit also disputed the characterization and wider context of the incident. These are allegations in competing legal filings, not findings by a court. The AP report does not establish a final judicial ruling.
