Ghosts Season 5 gives Flower more room to express her intelligence, set boundaries and take part in stories with emotional stakes. But the claim that the season “breaks her oldest trend” needs a qualification: the available episode guide and interviews do not identify or document a specific long-running trend. What they do show is a clearer emphasis on Flower as more than comic relief.
What changes for Flower in Season 5?
Before the season, co-showrunner Joe Wiseman said the creative team wanted to explore Flower more deeply and show a smarter side of her. That is stated creative intent, not a guarantee that every episode gives her a serious storyline. Still, Season 5 places her in several distinct situations: a relationship dispute with Thor, a Ghost Representative election against Isaac and the two-part finale. The CBS Season 5 episode guide lists 22 episodes.

In an October 2025 interview, Sheila Carrasco, who plays Flower, described her character as intelligent and insightful and previewed a glimpse of Flower sober. Carrasco said that version is quicker to put her thoughts and feelings into words. She also described Flower’s usual optimism as a defining quality: “It’s a superpower of hers that she can always look through life with these rose-colored glasses.” That is the actor’s interpretation of the character, rather than an episode-by-episode statement about how Flower behaves.
What happens between Flower and Thor in “The List”?
In “The List,” dated March 5, 2026, Sam needs to move a recliner, and Thor offers space in his and Flower’s room. Flower objects not just to the leather chair but to the decision being made about their shared space without her input. Their disagreement leads Pete to offer couples counseling. The CBS episode guide describes the conflict as a clash over who gets to call the shots in the relationship; a TV Insider interview with Carrasco supplies the chair and consultation details.

The scene’s comic setup and its autonomy issue belong together: Flower is not merely quibbling over furniture. Carrasco described her as a feminist who stands up for herself, and said the cast was excited to explore a fight between the couple because viewers do not often see Flower and Thorfinn arguing. The conflict gives Flower a specific point of view and makes the relationship itself the subject, rather than treating her as a source of eccentric jokes.
Does Flower stay sober throughout the season?
The cited Season 5 preview establishes a glimpse of sober Flower, not an ongoing sobriety arc across the season. Carrasco’s wording was: “We’re gonna see a glimpse of Flower sober.” She characterized sober Flower as quicker to verbalize what she thinks and feels. It would go beyond that comment to say the season makes her sober permanently or that sobriety defines her wider story.
Does Season 5 really break Flower’s “oldest trend”?
That phrase is not defined in the CBS episode guide or the cited interviews. They do not identify a recurring flower motif, a named tradition or a specific earlier pattern that Season 5 overturns. Without examples from earlier episodes, it would be misleading to present a series-wide trend break as an established fact.
A more supportable reading is that the season develops Flower through stories that give her agency, insight and relationships of her own. In a March 2026 interview with Fangirlish, Carrasco discussed Flower confronting people from her former cult in “The Others” and recognizing the Woodstone ghosts as her new family. That adds context to the season’s character work, though it is Carrasco’s account rather than an official episode synopsis.
