Boyer described lying beside Wilder while the music played. In the account published by Parade, she recalled: “The music was playing in the background…and I was lying next to him,” she said. “He sat up in bed and he said, ‘I trust you.’ And then he said, ‘I love you.’ That’s the last thing he said.” Parade’s March 17, 2024 report attributes the account to Boyer in the documentary.

Fox News also reported Boyer’s recollection, identifying the song as Ella Fitzgerald singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The two reports agree on the two-part wording: “I trust you,” followed by “I love you.”
How the moment fits into Remembering Gene Wilder
The documentary looks at Wilder’s life and career, including his experience with Alzheimer’s disease. A 2024 Charlotte Jewish Film Festival program interview says the filmmakers wanted to focus on Boyer and that she hoped the film would draw attention to Alzheimer’s.
