Geddy Lee’s baseball fandom goes back decades, and he has described himself as a Blue Jays supporter. But the specific World Series comments implied by a 2025 Rolling Stone headline cannot be confirmed from the available text: the listing gives the headline and date, not the article’s contents. The clearest account of Lee’s baseball life comes from a 1997 interview, published online in 2024.
What did Geddy Lee say about the Blue Jays and the World Series?
Lee’s longstanding support for the Blue Jays is documented in a 1997 interview. His specific comments about the World Series in the Rolling Stone article indexed on October 31, 2025, are not available in the article listing, so it is not possible to reliably report what he said about the series or the team’s current prospects. The headline alone does not establish his views.
The interview with Lee was recorded on March 26, 1997, and published by Baltimore Positive on November 20, 2024. It offers dated background on his fandom, rather than a substitute for the unavailable 2025 article: Geddy Lee of Rush talks bass and baseball.
How Lee became a baseball fan
Lee recalled that Toronto had a Tigers farm-team club when he was young, but he described a later rediscovery of the sport while touring. “I didn’t rediscover baseball, really, till I was on the road,” he said. He often woke around midday and found games on television. He said he rooted for the Blue Jays, while also cheering for friends he had met in baseball when they played against his home team.

His interest extended beyond Toronto. Lee said he traveled to Japan in 1990 to watch his friend Warren Cromartie play in the Japan Series. In the interview, he remembered organized cheering sections and a colorful atmosphere, and praised the quality of play. Those are Lee’s personal recollections from 1997, not a current comparison of baseball leagues.
Lee’s baseball views, as expressed in 1997
In the same conversation, Lee called himself a purist. He favored natural grass and eliminating the designated hitter, but said interleague play did not bother him. He also thought the expanded playoffs had become exciting to watch. These opinions belong to the interview’s 1997 context; they should not be presented as his current positions.
