After O.J. Simpson died on April 10, 2024, Ron Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman, told the Associated Press that Simpson’s death was “a further reminder of Ron’s being gone.” In a separate joint statement, Fred and Ron’s sister, Kim Goldman, said the family’s hope for true accountability had ended. The two reactions were reported separately and should not be conflated.
Fred Goldman’s individual reaction
The Associated Press reported Fred Goldman’s brief response to Simpson’s death: “It’s a further reminder of Ron’s being gone.” The quote describes the loss Simpson’s death brought back into focus; it does not express forgiveness, relief or closure.
Ron Goldman was 25 when he was murdered alongside Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994. O.J. Simpson died at age 76, according to the Associated Press report published April 11, 2024.
What Fred and Kim Goldman said together
ABC News reported a separate joint statement from Fred and Kim Goldman. They described the family’s emotions as “a mixed bag of complicated emotions” and said Simpson’s death meant “the hope for true accountability has ended.” They also said they would continue advocating for victims and survivors.

The accountability remark was attributed to both Fred and Kim, not to Fred alone. The ABC News account placed that statement in the context of the family’s decades-long pursuit of justice.
Why the criminal and civil cases were different
Simpson’s criminal trial and the Goldman and Brown families’ civil case were separate proceedings with different outcomes. Simpson was acquitted of criminal charges in 1995. In 1997, a civil jury found him liable for wrongful death and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Brown and Goldman families, ABC News reported. The civil finding was not a criminal conviction.

What the estate report established
In an April 13, 2024 report, the Associated Press said Simpson’s will named Malcolm LaVergne as executor and that the estate’s assets had not yet been fully tallied. The report relayed LaVergne’s opposition to a payout to the Goldman family and noted that the Brown and Goldman families could seek payment from estate assets. It was an immediate post-death account, not a final accounting: it does not establish what was ultimately paid or distributed. See the AP estate report.
