Fantástico’s archive documents a reporting thread about the case known as “the woman in the abandoned house,” involving Margarida Bonetti, a domestic worker in the United States and investigations in Brazil. The broadcaster’s pages describe a neighbor’s account and separate procedural developments; they do not establish every allegation as an independently verified fact.
What the Fantástico reports covered
A 13-minute Fantástico segment in Globoplay’s archive revisits details about events from 22 years earlier. Its summary says neighbors had reported that Bonetti kept a domestic worker in conditions analogous to slavery. The segment’s headline attributes to a neighbor the claim that the worker lived in a basement. That is a reported account, not a finding this archive page independently verifies. A separate six-minute archive entry presents new details about the case and says the police inquiry opened against Bonetti in São Paulo in 2000 was archived. The page does not provide the original broadcast date. See the archived segment on Globoplay.
Why the case has more than one procedural thread
The archive distinguishes the U.S. case from proceedings in Brazil. One clip’s title says the U.S. Embassy considered the case resolved; its description says Fantástico’s reporters explain why Bonetti was never arrested in Brazil. Separately, a 58-second clip reports that an investigation into alleged abandonment of an incapable person had not been concluded at the time of that report. It says a police delegate intended to hear Bonetti and request a mental-health examination. Those descriptions concern distinct matters, and the archived 2000 São Paulo inquiry should not be treated as proof that every related investigation had ended.
