Luffy first reveals Gear 4 Snakeman in episode 870 of the One Piece anime. The English episode guide titles it “A Fist of Divine Speed! Another Gear Four Application Activated!” and the official Japanese franchise page lists it under the same number.
Where the transformation appears
The reveal happens in the middle of Luffy’s fight with Katakuri during the Whole Cake Island arc. The official episode page for episode 870 describes the moment after the dust settles, when Luffy is shown activating a new Gear 4 form, Snakeman. The original Japanese synopsis reads: 土埃がおさまり、新たなギア４・スネイクマンを発動したルフィの姿が明らかになる。 In English, that is roughly: “As the dust settles, Luffy is revealed having activated the new Gear 4 form, Snakeman.” This is the publisher’s synopsis, not a quotation from a named person.
Episode 870 and the episode that follows
Episode 870 is the transformation reveal. The fight itself continues and concludes in episode 871, so viewers who remember the whole battle may recall both numbers. If you want to watch only the Snakeman reveal, start at 870; to see how the Katakuri fight ends, continue to 871.
