Ed Sheeran said his wife, Cherry Seaborn, was diagnosed with a tumour during her second pregnancy in 2022, and that treatment could not begin until after the birth. The public accounts do not identify the tumour’s type or location, describe treatment, or establish her current health status. They tell us what Sheeran chose to share about a frightening period—and how it shaped his music and the documentary Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All.
What did Ed Sheeran say about Cherry Seaborn’s diagnosis?
On March 1, 2023, while discussing his album Subtract, Sheeran described a series of difficult events from the previous year. As quoted by CBS News, he wrote: “Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth.”
That is the clearest public account of the diagnosis in the cited reporting. It is Sheeran’s description of what happened to his wife, not a detailed medical statement from Seaborn herself. No verified direct quotation from Seaborn appears in these accounts.
What is known about the timing?
ITV News reported that the diagnosis came in 2022 during Seaborn’s second pregnancy and that the couple’s daughter was born in May 2022. Sheeran said treatment had to wait until after the birth; the reporting does not say what medical care followed.

What has not been disclosed?
The public accounts cited here do not name the tumour type or its location, give a stage, explain the treatment, or provide a verified update on Seaborn’s health today. The word “tumour” alone does not establish a specific diagnosis, so claims about a particular cancer, procedure, prognosis, or outcome would go beyond what these sources support.
An Apple TV catalogue description refers to the couple’s experience and says there was good news about Seaborn’s health, but that dated description is not a current medical update. It should not be used to assert her present condition.

How did Sheeran describe handling the experience?
Sheeran said he spiralled “through fear, depression and anxiety” as several serious events unfolded in 2022. In his account, those events changed the emotional direction of Subtract. That describes his own response; the public reporting does not provide a detailed account of how Seaborn personally processed the diagnosis or what support she received.

Disney’s official announcement said it would premiere globally on May 3, 2023, and described a series built around interviews with Sheeran, his wife, and people close to them. The documentary places the couple’s experience within a wider account of Sheeran’s life and music rather than supplying a public medical record.
