The moment the headline appears to refer to came in Deal or No Deal Island season 2, episode 5, “Trust Fall.” Dr. Will Kirby pressed the button on a $72,000 offer, later argued that the choice was not official until the host asked him to confirm, and ultimately accepted a $168,000 offer with just $1,000 in his case. The deal gave him the power to choose who went home; he picked Maria-Grace Cook.
What happened in the Temple game?
According to a recap by Reality Blurred, Kirby first pressed the button when the Banker offered $72,000. He then maintained that pressing it did not make the deal final: in his reading of the rules, a decision became official only when the host asked for a final answer. The recap reports that Kirby ultimately accepted a later $168,000 offer while holding a $1,000 case.
That sequence is the distinctive part of the play: Kirby used the difference between an initial button press and a confirmed deal to prolong the decision, then took the later offer. The recap says the successful deal gave him the choice of whom to eliminate. He chose Cook and then left the set again. No official episode transcript was available to independently verify the precise game mechanics or dialogue, so those details are best understood as the recap’s account.
Why did Dr. Will eliminate Maria-Grace Cook?
The reports establish Kirby’s choice, but do not establish a definitive strategic reason for it. Cook later told Hidden Remote that she was surprised, especially because she had spent time talking with Kirby earlier that day. She described watching him play in the room as miserable, while saying the experience could be funny to look back on afterward.

TV Insider’s interview coverage also reports that Kirby followed through on the deal and selected Cook. These accounts support the impact of the elimination on Cook; they do not provide enough evidence to assign Kirby a motive beyond the choice he made in the game.
Was it really one of the most daring reality-TV moves in years?
“One of the most daring” is a subjective description, not a ranking established by the available reporting. The episode account does support calling Kirby’s move theatrical and consequential: his play turned a deal into the power to decide who left, and Cook was eliminated. But the coverage does not compare it systematically with other reality-TV moments, measure the risk to Kirby against alternatives, or establish that the button reversal was unprecedented.

What happened to Dr. Will after the episode?
TV Insider reported that David Genat eliminated Kirby in the February 18, 2025 episode. The same report quoted Kirby saying that Deal or No Deal Island would be his last reality-TV appearance and noted his earlier comments about passing the torch. Those were Kirby’s statements as reported in 2025; they do not establish what he may choose to do in the future.
Peacock’s season 2 finale recap says Genat won the season and its $5.8 million prize. Peacock also identifies Chrissy Teigen as season 2’s Banker and says seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on the service. Streaming catalogs can change, so check Peacock for current availability.
