“Sorry, that page is in another castle!” is a playful error message meaning that the page you requested cannot be found or cannot be reached. It borrows a line from Super Mario Bros., so it works as a joke on top of a standard “page not available” condition. The phrase by itself does not tell you why the page failed, so the useful question is which site showed it, on what address, and whether the problem is the link, the page, or your connection.
Where the phrase comes from
In Super Mario Bros., the Mushroom Retainer tells Mario that “Our princess is in another castle!” after he reaches a castle that is empty of the princess. Web designers borrowed that detour as a gag for error pages: you arrived at the wrong place, and the destination you wanted is somewhere else.

The joke is older than the wording most people see today. A reference page on the Super Mario Wiki records an earlier 404 error page that read “404 PAGE NOT FOUND / THANK YOU MARIO / BUT OUR PRINCESS IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE!” and attributes that wording to an IGN error page. The reference describes it as the text of an error page, not as an explanation from Nintendo or any named person.
What the message means on a page
The phrase is a friendly way of saying that the address you tried did not return the content you expected. It is closest in meaning to a “404 Not Found” response, but the wording does not guarantee a specific status code. Different sites have used different wording for the same kind of failure, so the phrase is best read as a sign of a missing or inaccessible page, not as a diagnosis.

Three situations commonly produce this kind of result, and they need different fixes:

Twitch and the historical record
Twitch used variants of the phrase on its error pages. The Super Mario Wiki reference records the desktop wording as “I’M SORRY, THAT PAGE IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE!” and the mobile wording as “Sorry, that page is in another castle!” These are historical accounts. They do not confirm that Twitch shows the same message today, and the wording may have changed since the records were made.

The August 2015 route report
In August 2015, a user on the Twitch Developer Forums reported that the /user/logout route displayed the “another castle” message. A staff reply in that thread said the route had been deprecated and removed in favor of /logout. The case shows a removed route producing the message. It is specific to that route in 2015 and should not be read as a general description of Twitch behavior.
The June 2016 link report
In June 2016, another Twitch Developer Forums user said that a link on their channel led to the message. A reply advised including http:// or https:// in external URLs. That was one cause in one case. It is a useful check when a link is involved, but it does not mean every instance of the phrase comes from a missing prefix.

How to troubleshoot the message
Work through these checks in order. Most cases are resolved in the first two steps.
- Read the full address. Look at the address bar and confirm it starts with
https://(orhttp://), that the domain is spelled correctly, and that no text has been pasted onto the end. - Reload from the site’s home page. Open the domain directly and navigate to the content. If you can reach it that way, the old link is the problem, and the message points to a moved or removed route.
- Test whether the message follows the site or your device. If the same page loads in a different browser, in a private window, or on another network, the cause is likely local, such as cached data, a browser extension, or a connection problem.
- Check whether the message appears on other sites. If it appears across many unrelated sites, look at your browser, your connection, or a shared service such as a DNS or filtering tool. The historical reports discussed here do not establish a diagnosis for that wider pattern, so treat it as general troubleshooting rather than a documented cause.
- Contact the site. If the page should exist and the message persists from every network you try, report the exact address and the time you saw the message to the site’s support channel. Include a screenshot if possible.
What to take away
The phrase is a joke about a missing page, drawn from a game where the princess is always somewhere else. Read it as a signal to check the address and the route, not as an explanation of the cause. For Twitch specifically, the message is documented in forum reports from 2015 and 2016, and those reports describe particular routes and links rather than a single current behavior.
