Yes—Diane Lane has recalled dating Jon Bon Jovi for five months when she was 20. In 2017, she called it “a wonderful experience,” and described a memorable backstage glimpse of the band packing for tour. A separate breakup story involving Richie Sambora came from a former tour manager’s book; Lane did not confirm that account.
Did Diane Lane and Jon Bon Jovi date?
Lane said they dated for five months when she was 20. In a 2008 interview with The Advocate, she reflected that “going out with somebody for five months is long when you’re 20.” She repeated the duration and her age in a 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, as reported by Us Weekly.
Why did Lane say the relationship lasted?
Lane suggested that Bon Jovi’s touring schedule may have helped them stay together. “The fact that he was away and traveling on his tours was probably how we lasted so long,” she told The Advocate in 2008. That is her own interpretation of the relationship, not an independently established explanation.
What did Lane recall about the band on tour?
On Watch What Happens Live in 2017, Lane said, “I think every girl should have such a wonderful experience when she’s that young.” She also recalled seeing Bon Jovi off before a tour and seeing photographs of the band’s jockstraps lined up as they packed. Us Weekly reported the remarks, and Bravo’s after-show page identifies the segment as being about Lane’s months-long relationship with Bon Jovi when she was 20.

What was the Richie Sambora breakup story?
In 2010, CBS reported a claim in Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi, a book by former tour manager Rick Bozzett: that the relationship broke down after Bon Jovi found Lane partying with guitarist Richie Sambora. That account should be understood as a claim attributed to the book, not as a confirmed explanation from Lane.
Asked about the story, Lane told CBS that it had happened “a quarter of a century ago, so I’m a little fuzzy.” She also said, “Some people will just try and sell a book, and I can’t blame them.” Her response does not verify the book’s version. CBS’s account and Lane’s comments are available in its 2010 report.

What is known about when they dated?
Lane’s accounts establish her age and the relationship’s approximate length, but not precise start and end dates. It is safest to describe the relationship as a five-month romance when she was 20 rather than assign it a specific calendar year.
