Deryck Whibley alleges in his 2024 memoir, Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell, that former Sum 41 manager Greig Nori groomed him and subjected him to sexual and verbal abuse. Nori disputes Whibley’s account, saying their relationship began when Whibley was an adult and was consensual. The cited reporting does not establish a court finding or a later legal resolution.
What did Deryck Whibley accuse Greig Nori of?
In his memoir, Whibley describes a sexual relationship with Nori and alleges that Nori groomed and abused him, including verbally and psychologically. Whibley says he later came to understand the relationship as abusive. These are Whibley’s allegations, not an adjudicated finding. The Los Angeles Times reported that Whibley described his realization this way: “I started hearing stories of grooming, and it all started to make sense.”

How did their relationship begin, according to each account?
Whibley’s account
Whibley says he met Nori as a teenager in the 1990s. The Los Angeles Times reports that Whibley was 16 and Nori was 34 when the alleged grooming began. Nori became a songwriting mentor and later Sum 41’s manager, giving the young musician career guidance and access to the music industry, according to Whibley’s account as reported by the Times.
Nori’s response
Nori disputes both the timing and the characterization of the relationship. In a statement to the Toronto Star reported by the Los Angeles Times, he said: “The accusation that I initiated the relationship is false. I did not initiate it. Whibley initiated it, aggressively.” Nori’s reported position is that the relationship began when both were adults and was consensual.

Sum 41 fired Nori in 2005, ending his management relationship with the band, according to the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. Whibley’s allegations appeared years later in his memoir, Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell.
What did Whibley say after Nori’s denial?
On October 16, 2024, Whibley said he stood by his account and challenged Nori to address the dispute under oath. As the Los Angeles Times reported, Whibley said: “I stand behind every word that’s in my book, 100%.” The cited reporting does not confirm that the challenge led to a court case or establish any later legal outcome.
