David Beckham spoke about children, social media and learning from mistakes at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 20, 2026, one day after his son Brooklyn published a statement about their family. David did not directly address Brooklyn’s allegations in the CNBC interview, and he did not answer ITV’s follow-up questions afterward. His comments were an indirect response in timing, not a detailed reply to the claims.
What David Beckham said in Davos
During an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, David was asked about children and social media. ITV transcribed him saying: “I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them, they make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes, that’s how they learn… but you know you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.” ITV News reported that he connected the remarks to his work as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and his efforts to use his platform to raise awareness of issues affecting children.

CNA also reported that David described social media as having both positive and negative power and said children’s access to online material could be dangerous. The remarks were about parenting and social media; he did not refer directly to Brooklyn’s accusations in the CNBC segment.
What Brooklyn Beckham had said the day before
On January 19, Brooklyn posted a lengthy statement on Instagram saying he did not want to reconcile with his family. The Associated Press reported him writing: “I do not want to reconcile with my family.” He also wrote: “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

Brooklyn alleged that his parents controlled public narratives about the family and tried to undermine his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham. He also raised grievances concerning their 2022 wedding, his wife’s treatment and rights to his name, according to The Associated Press and The Guardian. These are Brooklyn’s allegations; the reports do not independently establish the private events he described.
