Why the February 2024 arrest followed a 2023 traffic stop
The arrest and the traffic stop happened on different dates. WSMV reported that police stopped Rucker in Franklin, Tennessee, on February 19, 2023. According to the arrest affidavit as summarized by WSMV, officers found 14 pills, a THC pen and a blunt. WSMV said Rucker was released from the scene while the pills were being identified.

WSMV reported that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation later said the pills tested positive for psilocybin, after which an arrest warrant was signed. This is a test result reported by WSMV and attributed to the agency; it should not be treated as an independent finding here. WSMV’s report describes the affidavit and investigation.
What was reported about the charges
Contemporary reports said Rucker turned himself in on February 1, 2024, and faced two counts of simple possession or casual exchange and one vehicle-registration-law count. WSMV reported that he was released on a $10,500 bond. These are details reported at the time, not a statement of guilt or a final court disposition. The Los Angeles Times also reported the arrest and charges.

How the interview account differs from the affidavit account
The two accounts should be kept distinct. In the interview, Rucker said friends who were moving asked him to take items they could not fly with. WSMV’s summary of the arrest affidavit says that, during the 2023 stop, Rucker told police his girlfriend had given him the items and that he did not know what the pills were. The sources describe different statements in different contexts; neither account, by itself, establishes what happened.
Rucker’s attorney, Mark Puryear, told WSMV: “Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges.”
