Not at all. I hate it,” she said. She also spoke about her daughter, the possibility of acting again and her memoir, You with the Sad Eyes, released March 3.
What Applegate said about living with MS
In the interview, Applegate described life with MS as uneven rather than consistently good or bad. “It still sucks, Robin. It really does,” she told Roberts. Talking about friends who also have MS, she added: “There is no great. There’s a better day and a less s—– day.” The censored wording is reproduced as it appeared in ABC News’ report of the conversation.
When Roberts asked about the grieving process, Applegate said she had not reached acceptance: “Where am I at with acceptance? Not at all. I hate it.” Her remarks describe her own response to the diagnosis; they should not be taken as a universal account of how people with MS feel.
Her daughter and a possible return to acting
Applegate named her daughter, Sadie, as a source of meaning. “I wake up every day and go, ‘I’m Sadie’s momma.’ And that, to me, is why I’m still here,” she said, adding that she wants “visceral joy” for her daughter.

She also said she would like to act again. Her conditions came with a laugh: “As long as I didn’t have to get up really early and no one touches my face or my hair.” Applegate was diagnosed while starring in Netflix’s Dead to Me, which concluded in 2022.
What the interview says about MS—and what it does not
ABC News’ report describes multiple sclerosis as an autoimmune condition in which the body attacks myelin around nerve fibers in the central nervous system. It notes that symptoms vary and can include fatigue, numbness or tingling, weakness, bladder-control problems, dizziness or vertigo, and motor or coordination difficulties. The report, citing the NIH, says there is no known cure and that treatment commonly involves medication intended to reduce flares and slow disability progression. This is general context from the report, not information about Applegate’s treatment or individualized medical advice.

An earlier ABC News report, published in 2024, recounted Applegate’s account that symptoms began with tingling in her toes in early 2021. By the time she was filming that summer, she said she was being brought to set in a wheelchair because she could not walk far. That report also said she publicly announced her diagnosis in 2021 and credited actor Selma Blair with encouraging her to get checked. These are details from the earlier interview, not new disclosures in the 2026 conversation.
The 2024 report attributed two broader figures to the NIH and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: most people’s symptoms begin between ages 20 and 40, and MS is three times more common in women than men. Those are dated figures reported in 2024, not statistics specific to Applegate or an independently updated estimate.
