Britney Spears’ social media posts about Halsey’s “Lucky” video changed within hours on July 26, 2024. An initial post criticized the video and said Spears felt harassed, violated and bullied; a follow-up said, “That was not me on my phone” and affirmed her love for Halsey. Halsey responded with affection and called Spears an inspiration. The reports establish that sequence, but do not independently establish who posted the initial message.
What did Britney Spears say about Halsey’s “Lucky” video?
After Halsey released “Lucky” and its video on July 26, 2024, a post on Spears’ account said she was upset by the video and felt “harassed, violated and bullied.” The post also said she was speaking with lawyers. It was deleted or replaced shortly afterward, according to Rolling Stone Canada and Variety Australia/New Zealand.
The initial post’s wording was reported, but the reports do not independently verify who wrote or published it. Spears’ later explanation should therefore be attributed to her, rather than treated as independent proof that the account was hacked or that someone else posted.
Why did Spears take back the comment?
In a follow-up post, Spears wrote, “Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!!” and added, “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it,” as quoted by Rolling Stone Canada. That is the stated reason for the deletion; the available reports do not establish further details about who made the original post.

How the video and song connect to Britney Spears
Halsey’s “Lucky” samples Spears’ 2000 song of the same name. Stereogum also reports a sample from Monica’s “Angel of Mine.” Variety reported that Halsey said she had Spears’ approval to interpolate the song: “Yes, of course! I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!” (Variety Australia/New Zealand).
The video, directed by Gia Coppola, uses pop-star imagery to tell a story about a young fan who idolizes Halsey’s character, whose private life includes health struggles. It is a fictional portrait built around the song and its themes, not simply a recounting of Spears’ biography.
