He said they were having fun and mentioned going to the Olympics and “lots of great things.” His comments confirmed the relationship in his own words, but did not explain when it began or offer a detailed account of their private life.
What did Bill Gates say about Paula Hurd?
As reported by Us Weekly on February 4, 2025, Gates said on Today: “I’m lucky to have a serious girlfriend named Paula.” He added: “We’re having fun. Going to the Olympics and lots of great things.”
Those brief remarks are the clearest public description of the relationship in the cited coverage. They establish that Gates referred to Hurd as his girlfriend; they do not establish a precise dating start date or provide details about how the couple met.
When did Bill Gates and Paula Hurd start dating?
The public timeline does not establish an exact start date. Us Weekly reported that the pair sparked romance rumors in 2023. Parade’s April 19, 2026 report says they had been spotted together in 2022 and 2023, made their red-carpet debut at the Breakthrough Prize in 2024, and attended its 12th ceremony together in Santa Monica on April 18, 2026. Sightings and public appearances mark when they were seen together, not necessarily when they began dating.

What was said about Gates’s divorce?
In the same Today appearance, Gates also discussed his divorce from Melinda French Gates. Us Weekly reported that he said he had “moved past the divorce,” that Melinda was doing well, and that he had work he loved. Asked whether he would wish their marriage had never happened, he said, “No, I wouldn’t go that far,” and referred to their three children and the work they did together.
Those comments concern his former marriage and family. Gates did not present them as an explanation of his relationship with Hurd.

Who is Paula Hurd?
Parade describes Hurd as a community volunteer and philanthropist who worked for two decades in sales and services leadership positions at NCR. It reports that she supports educational and healthcare initiatives in her community and at Baylor University, her late husband Mark Hurd’s alma mater. Mark Hurd, Parade notes, was a former Oracle CEO who died in 2019. This is background on Hurd, not evidence about the couple’s private life.
Parade also reports that Hurd was an early reader of Gates’s 2025 memoir, Source Code. The book’s acknowledgments thank her and other early readers for feedback. The memoir is a source of Gates’s biography, not a book about his relationship with Hurd.
