Peg Palmer Wears said she was “not really upset” by Donald Trump’s remarks about her father, Arnold Palmer, but criticized them as a poor way to remember him. In a separate interview, she called the remarks “disrespectful and inappropriate” in the setting where Trump made them: an airport named for Palmer.
What did Peg Palmer Wears say?
Wears, one of Arnold Palmer’s daughters, gave two interviews with different emphases. The comments are not evidence of a reversal: in both, she objected to the way Trump spoke about her father.
Her Associated Press interview
Speaking to the Associated Press on October 20, 2024, Wears said, “There’s nothing much to say. I’m not really upset.” She also called the remarks “a poor choice of approaches to remembering my father, but what are you going to do?” Her first comment conveyed that she was not deeply upset; it did not mean she approved of the remarks.
Her ABC News interview
In a separate interview published October 21, ABC News reported that Wears found the remarks “disrespectful and inappropriate.” She explained that the setting mattered: Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe was named for her father, and it was an airport from which he regularly flew for work. She objected to Trump using what she described as “hackneyed anecdotes from the locker room” there.

What did Trump say, and where?
Trump spoke about Palmer at a campaign rally on October 19, 2024, at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Associated Press reported that the rally opened with a story about Palmer that included an anecdote about him in the showers with other professional golfers. AP described the Palmer story as lasting 12 minutes; that duration is AP’s reported account, not an independently measured time.
Palmer had died before the rally and did not respond to Trump’s remarks.

Why the two descriptions belong together
Wears’s AP comments combine a measured personal reaction with criticism of the way her father was remembered. Her later ABC News comments add why the location and locker-room anecdote struck her as disrespectful. Read together, the interviews show both her stated level of upset and her objection to the remarks’ approach and setting.
