The film is an original story based on the rhythm game HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE!, not a concert documentary.
What happened on April 11 for Hatsune Miku fans?
On February 13, 2025, GKIDS announced that its North American theatrical release of COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing would start April 11. GKIDS later published a more specific schedule: a limited US theatrical event from April 17 through 20, and Canadian cinema screenings beginning May 11. So April 11 was the date in the initial announcement, not the start date for every US screening. GKIDS’s February 13 announcement and March 27 ticket announcement document the change in detail.
What is A Miku Who Can’t Sing about?
The film is based on the mobile rhythm game HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! and tells an original story animated by P.A.WORKS. High-school musician Hoshino Ichika enters the mysterious SEKAI with her friends, where people express their innermost emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. After a live performance, Ichika encounters a new Miku who struggles to reach listeners with her singing. Ichika tries to help her find a way to connect with people through music.
The premise gives the film a character-focused angle: it is about Miku’s difficulty reaching an audience and the effort to help her sing again, rather than simply a screen adaptation of gameplay. GKIDS’s film page describes the story and lists its available formats.

What release and performance figures did GKIDS report?
GKIDS’s February 13, 2025 announcement said the game launched in 2020 and passed 10 million global users in its first two years. That is a historical milestone reported by GKIDS, not a current player total. The same announcement said the film debuted at number two in Japan and earned over 570 million yen at the Japanese box office following its January 17 domestic release. Those are GKIDS-reported figures, not an independently audited current worldwide total.
