Amanda Keller said in October 2023 that her husband, Harley Oliver, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease six years earlier. She shared the news on the couple’s podcast, Double A Chattery, describing the changes she noticed and why they had decided to speak publicly.
What Amanda Keller said about Harley Oliver
Keller disclosed Oliver’s diagnosis in an episode of Double A Chattery published on 4 October 2023. The episode was titled “We Don’t Get To Choose Our Ending, But I Still Choose Him.” In the episode description, the couple said they would have preferred not to discuss the matter publicly, but felt the timing was right to talk about what had been happening in their family. In a contemporaneous report, PerthNow said Keller described the diagnosis as having come six years before her 2023 disclosure. That is Keller’s reported timeline; the coverage does not provide an independently verified clinical diagnosis date. PerthNow’s 5 October 2023 report and 7NEWS’s report from the same day covered the disclosure.
Changes Keller recalled noticing
Keller told co-host Anita McGregor that she first noticed a change in Oliver’s footfall around the house, saying it seemed as if he was dragging a leg. She also recalled that his hands began to shake. Oliver initially attributed the shaking to an injury to his thumbs from playing wicketkeeper in cricket, Keller said.

“I first noticed Harley’s footfall around the house changing, like he was dragging his leg, and his hands started to shake, and he said he’d just been whacked in the thumbs as a wicketkeeper playing cricket, but I felt something was going on,” Keller told her podcast co-host, forensic psychologist Anita McGregor.
Keller also recalled the moment Oliver returned from the doctor: “When he came home (from the doctor), we both just sat there completely numb,” she said. These are details from Keller’s account as reported in 2023, not a complete medical history.

Why the couple chose to share the news
