Adult Swim’s first Lazarus clip introduces Axel Gilberto, a fugitive on the run, and the group pursuing him. The clip was shared on October 18, 2024, after the premiere episode screened at New York Comic Con. The anime’s larger story moves to 2052, where a miracle drug turns deadly and a five-agent team races to find its inventor.
What happens in the first clip?
The short clip centers on Axel Gilberto, identified as a fugitive, and the people who appear to be hunting him. It offers an early look at the series’ pursuit-driven action rather than a full explanation of its science-fiction premise. Adult Swim shared it after screening the premiere episode at New York Comic Con on October 18, 2024; BGR’s report covered the clip and screening.

What is Lazarus about?
The series is set in 2052. Dr. Skinner helped develop Hapna, a pain-relieving drug that became widely known as a miracle medicine. After Skinner disappears and later returns, the drug is revealed to have a fatal consequence for people who took it. A five-agent team called Lazarus must find Skinner and the vaccine he holds before time runs out: the story gives them 30 days.
That deadline is part of the fictional plot, not a real-world statistic. The official LAZARUS series site outlines the premise.

Who made the anime?
Shinichirō Watanabe created and directed Lazarus. MAPPA handled animation production, with Sola Entertainment as producer. Chad Stahelski, known for the John Wick films, supervised the action. The music contributors include Kamasi Washington, Bonobo, and Floating Points, according to the official series credits and Sola Entertainment’s production overview.
The official series site identifies “Vortex” by Kamasi Washington as the opening theme and “Lazarus” by The Boo Radleys as the ending theme. Warner Bros. Discovery’s February 27, 2025 announcement quoted Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen describing the show as an “amazing mix of great characters, super fun high-stakes, brilliant directing, and of course, some pretty great music.”

The 2024 clip report described the full 13-episode run as expected to air in 2025; that was the plan at the time, not a current schedule. Warner Bros. Discovery later announced a U.S. premiere on Adult Swim during Toonami at midnight on April 5, 2025, with new episodes due on Max the following day. Its announcement also said Japanese-language episodes with English subtitles would reach U.S. Adult Swim and Max 30 days after the English-language premiere.
Those details describe the announced 2025 release plan, not guaranteed availability in a service’s current catalog. The official Japanese site says the series is streaming and that its Blu-ray and DVD series are on sale, but it does not establish current stock, a particular retailer listing, or the language and region of an edition available to a given reader.
