A watch gift feels especially thoughtful when it is ready to wear. In a January 28, 2023 article, Time+Tide Watches contributor Ricardo Sime reads a moment in episode 7 of The Recruit as a lesson in preparing a bracelet watch to fit its recipient—or choosing a compatible strap when their wrist size is unknown.
What Sime sees in the scene
Sime describes one character giving another a watch on a bracelet that appears to fit. He identifies it as seeming to be a Garmin D2 Delta PX and imagines the giver learned the recipient’s wrist size and had the bracelet adjusted beforehand. The detail matters because a well-prepared bracelet watch can be worn straight away. As Sime puts it, “if you’re buying a watch as a gift, and it comes on a bracelet, getting it sized is that extra step that goes a long way.”
Why sizing can make a gift more convenient
“Who cares about it being sized – you just got a watch as a gift” is a reasonable reaction. The practical answer is simple: a bracelet that fits lets the recipient wear the watch immediately, rather than first arranging an adjustment. That small preparation can make the handover feel more considered without requiring an elaborate gesture.

Garmin recommends taking a metal watch band to a jeweler or another professional for length adjustment. If you plan to size a bracelet before gifting, you need reliable wrist-size information and time to arrange the work; guessing risks an uncomfortable fit. Garmin’s D2 Delta/Delta S/Delta PX owner’s manual gives the adjustment guidance.
Choose among three gifting approaches

Sime suggests a strap as a practical alternative when wrist size is unknown, using a black NATO strap as his example for the watch in the scene. It is his suggestion, not a Garmin requirement. There is no universally best choice: it depends on how sure you are about the fit, how soon the watch should be wearable, and what the recipient prefers.

Check compatibility before choosing a strap
Garmin’s product page describes the D2 Delta PX as a 51 mm aviation watch, lists 26 mm QuickFit band compatibility, and describes both a titanium bracelet-style band and an included silicone sports band. For this model, a Garmin QuickFit 26 mm band is a relevant option. The measurement alone does not guarantee that every 26 mm band works with every watch: confirm both the exact model and the attachment interface before buying. Garmin D2 Delta PX product details.
The owner’s manual says to remove a QuickFit band by sliding its latch, align the replacement band, and press it into place; check that the latch is secure afterward. See Garmin’s band instructions.
