In a 2024 interview, he said some of Reynolds’s comic behavior during the early 2000s was not his style and struck him as over the top. In the same conversation he praised Reynolds’s later work as Deadpool, called working with him “enjoyable,” and described Reynolds as the person who brought him back to the Blade role. The older reports of conflict mostly come from other people involved in the production, and Snipes has directly disputed only the most serious of those claims.
What Snipes said in 2024
Snipes’s most direct comments on Reynolds appeared in a 2024 Entertainment Weekly interview, as quoted by ComicBook.com. Asked about Reynolds’s humor on Blade: Trinity (2004), Snipes said it was not his kind of humor and that it struck him as over the top. Looking back at Reynolds’s performance as Deadpool, he said the style made sense in that context and described Reynolds as unique. He then summed up the working relationship this way:

“It was enjoyable to work with him. It was enjoyable to revisit.”
The comments separate two things that are often merged in online coverage. Snipes disagreed with a style of comedy during the 2004 shoot. He did not describe a personal break with Reynolds, and he did not call Reynolds difficult to work with.

How the return came together, in Snipes’s account
Snipes said he believed he had moved on from the Blade films and did not think a return was possible, partly because Mahershala Ali had been cast for a coming version of the character. According to Snipes, Reynolds then called him after about 20 years, explained the idea, and the project went ahead once Snipes agreed. This is Snipes’s description of how the cameo was arranged. It is not independently documented as a description of studio negotiations, and the sources cited here do not add detail beyond his account.

Reynolds’s 2004 account
The earliest first-hand comments come from Reynolds himself, in a December 2004 interview with blackfilm.com, around the film’s release. He said: “The first time I met Wesley, we all had a start-of-movie dinner and I think that was the last time I met Wesley.” He described Snipes as a method actor who stayed in the persona of Blade during filming. Reynolds said that approach was unfamiliar to him, but that he respected what an actor needed to do for a role.

Read on its own terms, this describes limited contact and different working methods. It does not describe hostility from Snipes.
Patton Oswalt and later production accounts
The more serious claims about Snipes’s conduct on set and his conflict with director David S. Goyer come from other people. Patton Oswalt raised allegations about Snipes’s behavior in a 2012 interview with The A.V. Club. The Independent’s 2024 retrospective on the film summarizes these claims alongside other production difficulties. Both are reporting attributed recollections, not verified findings. The Snipes-Goyer conflict is a separate matter from any Reynolds-Snipes dispute, and the sources do not show that Reynolds was part of it.

Snipes’s 2020 response to the strangling allegation
In a 2020 Guardian interview, Snipes directly denied the claim that he strangled Oswalt. He asked: “Did I go to jail for strangling him? Never happened.” He also questioned why Oswalt’s version had been accepted and tied the treatment of the allegation to a broader problem of racial assumptions.
Snipes also described his position on the production. He said he had executive-producer status and contractual director-approval authority, and put it this way: “I had contractual director approval. I was not just the actor for hire. I had authority to say, to dictate, to decide.” His denial covers the strangling allegation only. He did not address every claim in the later retrospectives.

Earlier public questions about the set
A 2018 Vice interview shows that Snipes was already being asked about Blade: Trinity set rumors years before the 2024 reunion. That establishes that the rumors had a public history. It does not establish that any particular rumor was true.
How to weigh each account
| Source and date | Speaker | Subject | Level of certainty |
|---|---|---|---|
| blackfilm.com interview, December 2004 | Ryan Reynolds | Limited contact; Snipes’s method approach on set | Contemporaneous first-person account of his own experience |
| Vice interview, 2018 | Wesley Snipes | Questions about Blade: Trinity set rumors | Shows the rumors were public; does not confirm them |
| The A.V. Club interview, 2012 | Patton Oswalt | Alleged behavior by Snipes; conflict with David S. Goyer | Attributed recollection; not independently verified |
| The Guardian interview, 2020 | Wesley Snipes | Denial of the strangling allegation; his authority on the production | First-person denial; disputed by the allegation’s source |
| The Independent retrospective, 2024 | Journalist summarizing earlier claims | Production difficulties, including the Oswalt and Goyer accounts | Secondhand summary of attributed claims |
| Entertainment Weekly interview, 2024, as quoted by ComicBook.com | Wesley Snipes | Reynolds’s humor, his Deadpool work, the reunion | First-person comments given decades after the shoot |
What remains unsettled
- Whether any on-set friction involved Reynolds beyond the 2004 comments on method acting and limited contact.
- The details of the Snipes-Goyer conflict, which rest on recollections from cast and crew rather than documented findings.
- How the two actors get along privately. Snipes’s 2024 remarks and the reunion describe a working relationship, not a personal one.
- Whether Reynolds has responded to Snipes’s 2024 comments. The sources cited here do not include a reply.
The word “feud” suggests a documented, two-sided dispute. What the record shows is narrower: a 2004 account of distance and different acting methods, a set of attributed allegations about other conflicts, a denial of the most serious of those, and a 2024 reflection that is critical of one style of comedy and warm about the collaboration.
