Wendy Williams’s court-appointed guardian alleged that Williams lacked the capacity to consent to filming for the Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? That claim was not established as a court finding in the records cited here. In July 2026, the guardian and A&E reportedly resolved their lawsuit and agreed to drop it; the settlement terms were not disclosed.
What the guardian alleged
Sabrina Morrissey, acting as Williams’s court-appointed guardian, brought a case challenging the release of Where Is Wendy Williams? The complaint alleged that Williams could not consent to being filmed. The allegation should not be treated as a judicial determination that she lacked capacity when filming took place.
The federal court record identifies A&E Television Networks and Entertainment One Reality Productions as defendants. It describes the documentary as having aired on February 24 and 25, 2024. The September 15, 2025 order in Morrissey v. A&E Television Networks says Morrissey filed an action in New York state court on February 21, 2024, challenging the documentary’s release.
What the court record says about capacity
The September 2025 order addressed discovery and the conditions for an early deposition, amid consideration of Williams’s medical condition and guardianship status. It noted that specialists had formed an opinion about her then-current neurological condition and decision-making ability, but said the test results had not been made public at that time.

Those later evaluations and procedural decisions do not establish Williams’s capacity to consent to filming in 2024. The order did not rule that she did or did not have capacity when the documentary was made. It also discussed the possible effect of a determination that she could make decisions for herself, in the context of the litigation and her deposition.
The lawsuit reportedly settled in July 2026
On July 21, updated July 22, 2026, TMZ reported that Morrissey and A&E told the court they had resolved all issues and were dropping the lawsuit. TMZ’s report and TheGrio’s July 22 report say the dispute was settled; TheGrio reported that terms were not disclosed.

The reports do not establish whether there was a payment, whether either side admitted fault, or whether the consent allegation was substantiated. A settlement resolves a dispute between parties; without disclosed terms or a ruling on the allegation, it does not answer whether Williams could consent to filming.
