Yes. Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel say the “camel toe that can be seen from outer space” jab was written into the script. Biel also says Banks came up with plenty of other remarks on set, so their answer does not mean every insult in The Better Sister was scripted.
What Biel and Banks said about the line
In a Collider interview published by Filmibee on June 1, 2025, the pair were asked whether the sisters’ jabs were scripted, including the “camel toe that can be seen from outer space” comment. Banks replied, “Camel toe was written, I feel like.” Biel confirmed: “That one was written, but yeah, you threw a million things out every day, all day long.” Read the interview at Filmibee.
The distinction matters: they specifically identify this joke as scripted while describing Banks as frequently throwing out other lines during filming. The interview does not establish how many of those remarks made it into the finished series or whether each other jab was improvised.
Why the banter belongs in a dark thriller
The Better Sister is an eight-episode thriller about estranged sisters Chloe (Biel) and Nicky (Banks). The murder of Chloe’s husband, Adam, and the suspicion surrounding Nicky’s son, Ethan, draw the sisters back into one another’s lives amid family secrets.

The verbal sparring gives the characters room for humor without turning the story into a comedy. Banks described reacting to Chloe’s elegant apartment, clothes, and expensive sheets with the thought, “You’re not better than me.” Biel said the writers and showrunners wanted to keep banter and lightness in the story alongside its traumatic themes. In a Los Angeles Times interview, showrunner Regina Corrado described the intimate harm sisters can do to one another as part of what makes the story frightening. The Los Angeles Times interview discusses the series’ family conflict.
The series and its source novel
The show is adapted from Alafair Burke’s 2019 novel, another route into the story of the sisters and their family. The television dialogue discussed by Biel and Banks should not be assumed to appear in the book; the interview establishes that this particular line was written for the series, not that it came from Burke’s novel.
