Ser Arlan of Pennytree’s prominent “weapon” in the nude opening of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1, Episode 2 was a prosthetic. Prosthetics designer Waldo Mason said his team made the prop for actor Danny Webb; an earlier, jokingly uncertain answer from showrunner Ira Parker was not the final word.
What appears in the scene?
The scene opens “Hard Salt Beef” with a flashback in which Ser Arlan, played by Danny Webb, emerges naked from a brothel. The episode gives the character a conspicuous visual gag before the story returns to Dunk and Arlan’s past.
Was it a prosthetic?
Yes. Mason, the prosthetics designer, said the production team was asked to create a 10-inch prosthetic for Webb. The measurement describes the prop, not the actor. Mason’s statement was reproduced in contemporaneous reporting by Just Jared on January 26, 2026; the designer’s statement was accessed through that reporting, which linked to his Instagram post.
Parker had initially answered with uncertainty, saying, “Was that a prosthetic? I forget,” then joking that Webb might simply have arrived on set that way. That comment was not a confirmation either way. Mason’s later account supplies the production answer.

How was the prop made to work on camera?
Mason described fittings and several details intended to keep the prosthetic in place and conceal its edges:
- The contact area and edges were reinforced with wig lace.
- A knotted merkin was applied to hide visible edges.
- Tubing for urination was taped down the back of Webb’s leg.
These are Mason’s reported production details, not independently verified measurements or observations of the original post.

Why give Ser Arlan this gag?
Parker explained the choice as a bit of character-focused humor: “I felt the need to give him his one special thing, to channel a little Boogie Nights, I suppose.” He connected that impulse to Arlan’s place in the story: the knight had looked out for Dunk, died on a muddy road without ceremony, and was poorly remembered by people he had served. That is Parker’s stated rationale, rather than a claim about how every viewer interpreted the scene.
ComicBook.com’s January 29, 2026 report places the scene at the start of “Hard Salt Beef” and discusses how the series expands Arlan’s presence compared with George R. R. Martin’s source story. The episode’s flashback and this particular visual joke are part of the screen adaptation.
