That account does not identify the watch’s model, verify a $60,000 value, or establish where the watch is now.
What was reported about the missing Rolex?
LA NACION reported that investigators reviewed footage showing Payne wearing a Rolex at least two to three hours before he fell from a hotel balcony on October 16, 2024. The report said the watch was absent when his body was examined and could not be found in searches at the hotel room and homes described by the newspaper. It also said investigators planned a further inspection of the room. The account relied on judicial and police sources.

The report said investigators suspected theft, but that suspicion is not proof that the watch was stolen or that any particular person took it. The reported absence of the watch does not, by itself, establish a connection between it and Payne’s death.
Was the watch ever recovered, and what was it worth?
The November 2024 report said the watch had not been found in the searches it described. The sources cited here do not confirm whether it was recovered later, so its present whereabouts are not established.

The report does not identify a Rolex model, provide a reference number, or include an appraisal. It therefore does not substantiate the $60,000 figure used in some versions of the story’s headline. Without a confirmed identification and reliable valuation, that amount should not be treated as the watch’s established value.
What is known about Payne’s death?
Payne died on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The Associated Press reported the medical examiners’ cause of death as multiple trauma and internal and external bleeding. Prosecutors reportedly saw no sign of a third party, while later coverage of a court ruling said the exact circumstances of the fall remained unclear.
LA NACION reported that investigators had reviewed more than 800 hours of security footage and questioned more than 20 witnesses. Those figures describe the scale of the investigation as reported from judicial sources; they do not establish the watch’s ownership, value, theft, recovery, or any link to the fatal fall.

In December 2024, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office said the case would continue in the national criminal and correctional jurisdiction while the investigation remained underway.

These were distinct procedural positions, not findings that all five were guilty or that all had been cleared; the reports cited here do not establish the case’s final outcome.
