What is known about Hough’s hosting role?
Hough became a co-host in season 32. ABC’s official DWTS cast biography identifies her as a host and notes her earlier work on the show as a professional dancer and judge.
When she returned as co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, Hough described the move as “a full circle moment coming here and being a dancer, a judge, and now hosting with Alfonso,” in an ABC News/Good Morning America report published December 4, 2023.

Does her earlier hosting story explain the routine?
No. In a 2023 conversation covered by TheWrap, Hough said she had passed on a hosting opportunity when she was 18 because she wanted to pursue acting and singing. That is background about an earlier career choice; it does not connect the later performance to job security.
