There is no confirmed report that Marvel fired Jeff Loveness. The May 2023 claim said he was rumored to be “off” Avengers: The Kang Dynasty; later reporting said he was no longer attached to write the film. The sources reviewed do not establish who initiated his departure or why.
Where the “fired” claim came from
On May 23, 2023, BGR reported a rumor posted by entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider four days earlier. Sneider wrote: “RUMOR: Hearing that screenwriter Jeff Loveness is off AVENGERS: KANG DYNASTY… and that he fell off prior to the strike.” The wording described Loveness as “off” the film and labeled the claim a rumor; it did not say he had been fired. BGR also said Marvel had not announced a change at the time. BGR’s report

What later reporting added
On November 13, 2023, ComicBook.com cited Vanity Fair reporter and MCU book co-author Joanna Robinson, speaking on the House of R podcast, as saying Loveness was no longer working for Marvel or attached to write the fifth Avengers film. The report linked the change to Marvel likely moving away from the Kang storyline, but it did not establish that Marvel dismissed him or provide a direct explanation from Loveness or the studio. On July 13, 2024, Nexus Point News reported that Michael Waldron had left the film and described Loveness as a previous writer the project had lost. That report likewise did not substantiate a firing or explain how Loveness’s departure happened. Nexus Point News’ report

What is known—and what remains unresolved
| Question | What the cited reporting supports |
|---|---|
| Was Loveness reportedly off the film? | Yes. The May 2023 rumor said he was “off”; by November 2023, a report attributed to Joanna Robinson said he was no longer attached to write it. BGR; ComicBook.com |
| Was he fired? | Not established by these reports. None confirms that Marvel fired him. BGR; ComicBook.com; Nexus Point News |
| Why did he leave, and who initiated it? | Not established. The reporting does not confirm whether he was dismissed, chose to leave, or departed under another arrangement. BGR; ComicBook.com; Nexus Point News |
| Who is writing the film now? | The sources reviewed do not establish current official writing credits. Waldron’s reported departure in 2024 does not, by itself, identify a current writer. Nexus Point News |
Does the 2026 Marvel announcement clarify the film?
No. Marvel’s June 5, 2026 announcement surfaced in the material reviewed concerns a new Avengers comic series beginning in November 2026, not the film’s title or writing credits. It is not confirmation of the film’s staffing. Marvel’s comics announcement
