No: Andrew Wilson did not become Disney CEO. Disney’s board selected Josh D’Amaro, and his appointment took effect on March 18, 2026. The available official records confirm that Disney reviewed internal and external candidates, but they do not establish that Wilson was among them.
What happened to Disney’s CEO succession?
Disney announced on February 3, 2026, that its board had elected Josh D’Amaro as the company’s next chief executive officer. The appointment became effective March 18, 2026, the date of Disney’s annual meeting. Dana Walden also became president and chief creative officer that day. Disney’s announcement and its SEC filing distinguish the announcement from the effective date.
Bob Iger’s transition
Iger moved from CEO to senior advisor effective March 18, reporting exclusively to Disney’s board. The SEC filing said he was to remain a board member through December 31, 2026, subject to the shareholder vote described in the filing. He did not simply leave Disney when D’Amaro took over.
Was Andrew Wilson a confirmed candidate?
Disney’s January 22, 2026 proxy statement describes the board’s succession-planning process, including review of internal and external candidates, but does not name Wilson. The official materials available here therefore do not verify that he was considered, shortlisted, or a finalist. They establish the outcome—D’Amaro’s selection—not the precise status of every potential candidate. Disney’s proxy statement is the primary source for the process.
