What appeared on Britt Robertson’s Instagram?
On June 19, 2017, Teen Vogue reported that Robertson’s Instagram account displayed a red-carpet photo of O’Brien alongside the caption: “Yes, we are officially engaged. #Brylan is real confirmed by Chikri.” The outlet said Robertson had not posted it and that the post was removed. Teen Vogue’s report attributes the message to an unauthorized account post; it is not a statement from either actor.
Seventeen reported the next day that the engagement claim was false and that Robertson had regained control of her account and deleted the picture. The outlet said neither actor had commented on the news at that point. Seventeen’s account likewise describes a fake announcement, not a real engagement.
Was this part of years of hacking?
The reporting located supports one account incident in June 2017. The post appeared on Robertson’s Instagram, not O’Brien’s. Teen Vogue and Seventeen reported the compromise and recovery; Capital FM also covered the episode on June 21, describing how the post led fans to believe an engagement had been announced. Capital FM’s coverage is contemporaneous entertainment reporting, not independent technical attribution.

These reports do not establish repeated attacks over several years or that hackers accessed either actor’s private messages, photographs, or other accounts. The broader claim in the original headline therefore goes beyond what the cited coverage documents.
