NBC Sports even posed the question in its video title. But the available reports do not confirm that the performer was Arno, identify the person, or establish an officially licensed cameo. The safest description is an apparent visual reference.
What happened during the ceremony?
During the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, a masked figure in a dark outfit and white hood moved through the city in a parkour-style sequence and helped deliver the Olympic torch. NBC Sports’ official video, published the following day, described the journey and asked whether the torchbearer was Arno from Assassin’s Creed: NBC Sports’ video.
A report published by TIME on July 26, 2024, also noted the fencing-style mask and white hood, and said viewers compared the figure to Assassin’s Creed. The account said the person’s identity had not been revealed: TIME’s report.
Was the torchbearer actually Arno?
That has not been confirmed by the sources available here. NBC Sports’ title makes the comparison explicit, but frames it as a question, not an identification. The reporting does not name the performer or establish that Ubisoft or Olympic organizers presented the character as an official cameo.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
So “Arno at the Olympics” works as shorthand for the resemblance, not as a verified claim that a fictional character appeared or that the costume was officially licensed. Without direct confirmation from the ceremony’s organizers, Ubisoft, or the performer, the identity and intent remain unresolved.
Why viewers thought of Arno and Assassin’s Creed Unity
Assassin’s Creed Unity is set in Paris in 1789, and Arno Dorian is its player character. Ubisoft’s official game page describes an open-world Paris and gives Arno a phantom blade with hidden-blade and crossbow capabilities. Those Parisian streets, hooded Assassin imagery, and acrobatic movement make the comparison understandable: Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity page.

Ubisoft’s 2024 retrospective on the game’s map calls Paris a “1:1 re-creation” of central Paris as it was in the 18th century, and describes the city as central to the game. That is Ubisoft’s description of its map, not an independently verified measurement. The retrospective also identifies Arno as the story’s lead Assassin: Ubisoft’s map retrospective.
