What role does Cavill reportedly play?
Feature First’s January 20, 2026 exclusive identifies Cavill as the King of Altea. That is the clearest reported description of his part, but it is not confirmed in Hasbro’s announcement.
The exact name is unsettled. Feature First calls him the King of Altea, while GamesRadar later refers to the reported character as “King Alfur.” Since the official announcement does not supply a character name, neither label should be presented as definitive.

What plot has been reported?
Feature First’s synopsis centers on a grieving teenager on Earth who discovers that his late mother was a legendary Voltron pilot from Altea. After Zarkon escapes imprisonment and attacks Altea, the teenager inherits his mother’s lion and must bring Team Voltron back together. The reported arc focuses on his self-doubt and growing courage.
Feature First also identifies Sterling K. Brown as Zarkon. As with its synopsis and Cavill character report, this is a single outlet’s exclusive; Hasbro’s official release does not confirm those story details or roles. The synopsis therefore offers a reported account of the film’s premise, not an official plot summary.

GamesRadar reported on May 12, 2026 that the movie would skip a theatrical release and go directly to streaming. Its report floated Prime Video or MGM+ as possible destinations, but did not establish which service will carry the film or give a firm release date. Hasbro’s announcement also does not specify a service or date.

Voltron began in syndication in 1984, according to TheWrap’s casting report. The franchise follows space explorers who pilot giant robots that combine into one larger robot. Feature First says the original series ran 124 episodes; that count is attributed to the outlet and is not stated in Hasbro’s announcement.

- Black Lion Pilot: Keith is the lead of the Voltron Lion Force and pilot of the Black Lion, the head and torso of Voltron

- Lights and Sound: The mighty Voltron’s chest lights up and he comes with over 60 authentic phrases and sound effects from the show

Thurber described the adaptation’s approach in a video message quoted by TheWrap: “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots.” The statement points to a new pilot generation while expressing an intent to retain the franchise’s spirit; it does not confirm the reported plot.
What Hasbro has announced beyond the film
Hasbro says it is collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on movie-inspired action figures, toys and roleplay products. The announcement establishes plans for merchandise, but does not identify specific models, prices or current availability.
