If VLC stops after the current video or the last playlist item, set VLC’s own playlist repeat mode to match what you want: repeat the current item for one video, or repeat the whole playlist for every item. This controls VLC playback; it is separate from YouTube’s viewer-side Loop option. If you are using VLC’s VideoLAN Manager (VLM) to broadcast, check its separate broadcast loop option.
Choose what should repeat
- One video: use repeat-current, which repeats the selected item.
- The entire playlist: use repeat-all, which plays the entries in order and starts the playlist again after the final item.
VideoLAN’s playlist API defines these as distinct repeat modes, alongside repeat-none. Its source comment says, “The playlist also handles the playback order and the repeat mode.” VideoLAN playlist API
Change VLC’s repeat setting
Use VLC’s playback repeat control and select the mode that matches the scope above. Do not assume a particular button, menu label, or click sequence: the official API documents the repeat modes, but it does not establish one desktop interface path that applies to every VLC version and platform. For exact steps, identify your operating system and VLC version, then consult the controls for that version.
Make sure the loop control is in the right player
Ordinary VLC playlist playback
VLC’s playlist repeat mode governs VLC playback. If VLC is the player supplying video to a YouTube Live workflow, changing this mode addresses whether VLC advances or repeats its playlist; it does not by itself guarantee that an outgoing live broadcast or connection to YouTube remains active.

YouTube viewer playback
YouTube’s Loop option is a viewer-side control, not VLC’s playlist setting. In YouTube’s player, right-click a video and choose Loop to repeat that video. For a YouTube playlist, use the playlist’s Loop control. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists
VLC VideoLAN Manager broadcasts
If you configured a broadcast with VLC’s VideoLAN Manager (VLM), check the loop option on the VLM media configuration. VideoLAN documents that this option is “Used for broadcast only.” When enabled, it restarts the input list after the final input finishes. This is a VLM broadcast setting, not the ordinary desktop playlist control. VideoLAN VLM documentation

Troubleshoot a playlist that still stops
- Confirm the intended scope. Choose repeat-current for one selected video or repeat-all for the full playlist.
- Confirm which application owns the control. Change VLC’s playback repeat mode for VLC playback; use YouTube’s Loop control only for viewing in YouTube.
- Check the playback context. If this is a VLM broadcast, inspect the VLM media’s broadcast loop option rather than assuming the ordinary playlist control applies.
- Get version-specific instructions. Note your platform and VLC version before following GUI steps; the documented modes do not prove one universal click path across editions.
If VLC reaches the end of its playlist but the YouTube Live broadcast itself disconnects, treat that as a separate ingest or broadcast problem. The official repeat-mode documentation does not establish that toggling the playlist setting alone keeps an outgoing stream connected.

For a YouTube channel that needs prerecorded videos to keep playing as a 24/7 live stream, StreamNeo is a separate option from configuring VLC on a computer: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start your free first day.
