Vivek Oberoi announced Balakot – The True Story on August 23, 2019, describing a planned film about the Balakot airstrike and Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s capture and return. Reports said it was intended for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu audiences, but the available listings do not establish whether Oberoi’s film was ultimately released.
What film did Vivek Oberoi announce?
Oberoi announced that he would produce Balakot – The True Story on August 23, 2019. Contemporary reports described its subject as the 2019 Balakot airstrike and the capture and return of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The planned languages were Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Contemporary coverage of the announcement reported that production was expected to begin in 2019; that was a plan at the time, not confirmation that filming began.
Oberoi gave a patriotic rationale for the project. As quoted by India Today, he said: “As a proud Indian, a patriot, and a member of the film fraternity, it’s my duty to highlight what our Armed Forces are truly capable of.”
Was Balakot – The True Story released?
The project’s release status is unresolved in the available sources. IMDbPro lists a 2020 release, while Moviebuff labels the title TBA. Those conflicting database listings do not confirm a theatrical or streaming release. No definitive official release, distribution or cancellation notice is established here, so it would be inaccurate to state that the film was released, cancelled or is available to watch.

Was there another Balakot film?
Yes. A separate project on the same subject was announced in December 2019, several months after Oberoi’s announcement. It should not be confused with Balakot – The True Story.
