Virginia Giuffre died by suicide in Western Australia on 25 April 2025, her family said. She was 41. Western Australia police said emergency services found an unresponsive woman at a residence in Neergabby, and the early indication was that the death was not suspicious.
What happened to Virginia Giuffre?
Giuffre’s family announced her death on 25 April 2025. Reuters reported that she had lived in Western Australia for several years. ABC News Australia identified the property as being in Neergabby, in the Shire of Gingin, about 80 kilometres north of Perth.
Western Australia police said emergency services attended a residence after reports of an unresponsive 41-year-old woman. BBC reporting said Major Crime detectives were investigating and that the early indication was that the death was not suspicious.
The available public account establishes the date, location and reported cause as suicide. It does not include details about the circumstances of her death, and those details should not be inferred.

How old was Virginia Giuffre?
Giuffre was 41 when she died. Her family’s announcement and police information identified her as a 41-year-old woman.
Why was Giuffre a major public figure?
Giuffre was one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent accusers. She alleged that Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell trafficked her when she was a teenager and that she was sexually abused in encounters involving Prince Andrew and other influential men.
Those statements were allegations made by Giuffre, including in legal filings. Prince Andrew denied the allegations. They should not be described as criminal findings against him.
What did Giuffre’s lawsuit against Prince Andrew do?
Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew in 2021. Reuters reported that the case settled in 2022. A settlement resolved that civil case; it was not a criminal verdict establishing the allegations as proven.

Was her death suspicious?
Police did not publicly identify the death as suspicious. Western Australia police said Major Crime detectives were investigating, while BBC reporting described the early indication as not suspicious. “Not suspicious” is an initial police assessment, not a complete public account of every investigative step.
How her family described her legacy
The Associated Press reproduced a statement from Giuffre’s family: “Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that lifted so many survivors.” BBC reporting also said relatives described the toll of abuse as having become unbearable.
Her public legacy is tied to speaking about alleged exploitation by Epstein and Maxwell, pursuing a civil case against Andrew, and supporting other survivors. Her death does not change the distinction between her allegations, Andrew’s denials and the legal status of the 2022 settlement.

Knopf listed Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice for posthumous publication on 21 October 2025. The book is the clearest identified continuation of Giuffre’s own account and advocacy, but publication information should be checked against the publisher’s current listing for availability and edition details.
