Virgin River is returning for Season 8, and filming has wrapped—but Netflix has not announced a premiere date. The best current estimate points to the first quarter of 2027; that is a forecast, not a confirmed release window. Here’s what Netflix has confirmed and what remains based on trade reporting or speculation.
Is Virgin River Season 8 confirmed?
Yes. Netflix confirmed the renewal and reported that Season 8 was in production on April 27, 2026. The announcement also said Martin Henderson would direct. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith thanked Netflix and fans, saying, “On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters.” Netflix Tudum’s Season 8 announcement has the official renewal details.
When will Season 8 come out?
Netflix has not announced a Season 8 premiere date in the sources available as of October 4, 2026. An early 2027 release is an estimate, not a date Netflix has set.
What’s on Netflix forecasts a first-quarter 2027 debut, reasoning that the production wrap leaves roughly six to seven months for postproduction. It also floats March 2027 partly because a Collector’s Edition of Robyn Carr’s first novel is reportedly scheduled for March 2. That book-publication timing is not evidence of Netflix’s release schedule, so March should be treated as speculation. What’s on Netflix’s release-date report lays out the forecast.

Has filming finished, and how many episodes are there?
According to What’s on Netflix, filming ran from April 22 to August 10, 2026, and lasted 110 days. The outlet reports that the season has 10 episodes. Those production dates, the episode count and the location details below are secondary reporting, rather than details confirmed in Netflix’s renewal announcement.
The production report says filming took place across nine regions of British Columbia, including Vancouver-area communities and Squamish. Those are filming locations; the show’s fictional Virgin River remains in Northern California. The production roundup gives the reported schedule and locations.
What will Season 8 be about?
The clearest official story direction is Mel and Jack’s move into parenthood. In the Season 7 finale, the couple’s adopted newborn is taken to neonatal intensive care; Netflix’s recap says Mel identifies herself as the baby’s mother. Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, told Tudum, “I am excited to see Mel as a mother.” That points toward a major role for Mel’s new motherhood, but does not establish what happens to the baby or how the health crisis is resolved. Netflix Tudum’s Season 7 finale recap covers the ending and Breckenridge’s comment.
Who is in the Season 8 cast?
Netflix’s renewal announcement does not provide a complete Season 8 cast list. An October 2026 What’s on Netflix guide reports returning performers, departures including Marco Grazzini and Lauren Hammersley, and additions Natasha Calis and Mitchell Slaggert. Treat those names as reported, not as a definitive Netflix-confirmed roster; the outlet’s episode-title lists and visual clues likewise do not amount to official plot confirmation. See the outlet’s cast and plot guide for its account.
