Verso Instruments’ Sine is an electric guitar designed to make pickup placement and pickup-to-string distance part of the performance. Its magnetic pickups can be repositioned along a flexible metal Pad; pressing the Pad moves them farther from the strings, reducing output. An optional Lehle-developed module translates Pad movement into expression, CV and USB MIDI signals. These features are described in New Atlas’s January 15, 2025 report, rather than a current manufacturer specification sheet.
What makes the Sine different?
On a conventional electric guitar, pickups occupy fixed positions. The Sine instead mounts its pickups magnetically on a metal sheet called the Pad, allowing their positions to be changed along it. The Pad is also flexible: pressing its lower edge shifts the pickups away from the strings, reducing their output. It therefore serves both as a pickup mount and as a physical performance control.
New Atlas described the Sine as a hand-built instrument with a six- or seven-string build option. Its reported specifications included an ash body, a glued C-shaped neck with a 25.6-inch scale, a solid brass bridge, locking tuners and 22 jumbo nickel frets. These are specifications reported in January 2025, not independently verified current specifications.
How do the movable pickups work?
According to New Atlas, pickups attach magnetically to the Pad and connect to the guitar’s wiring through SMB connectors. The reported design accommodates one pickup or as many as six. Verso was reported to offer three single-coil types, three humbuckers and a hybrid single-coil/piezo pickup; confirm the options with the maker before treating them as currently available.

Moving a pickup toward the bridge is described as producing a brighter tone, while moving it toward the neck is described as producing a bassier tone. The report also says a player can position pickups to sense selected strings, and that stereo output can route pickups to separate amplifiers or interfaces. Those are reported design capabilities, not results of a comparative listening test.
What does pressing the Sine Pad do?
The Pad is described as a powder-coated metal sheet bolted to the back of the body and bent over the top. Pressing its lower edge moves the pickups farther from the strings, reducing their output. New Atlas compares the resulting change to a volume swell or a tremolo-like effect. The exact feel and sound will depend on the movement and setup; the report does not provide measured output changes.

How does active expression control work?
The optional active module, developed with Lehle according to New Atlas, uses a magnetic Hall sensor to measure the Pad’s distance. It turns that movement into expression, CV and USB MIDI control signals. In principle, those outputs can let Pad movement control parameters on compatible pedals, synthesizers or music software, so the guitar’s physical motion can affect more than its own pickup output.
The report does not identify tested devices, supported control ranges, setup procedures or measured latency. Compatibility with a particular pedal, synthesizer, interface or software parameter should therefore be confirmed rather than assumed.

Who is the Sine for?
The Sine’s distinctive proposition is that it combines adjustable pickup position with a movable physical control and, optionally, electronic control outputs. That may interest players who want to experiment with pickup placement, route pickups separately, or use guitar movement to control external gear. It is a more specialized choice than a conventional fixed-pickup guitar, and the practical value of its expression outputs depends on the equipment and setup a player intends to use.
