Varsity Cannington is a sports bar and multi-activity venue in Beckenham, with duckpin bowling, an arcade, food and drinks, sports viewing and event facilities. It opened in March 2024; the “Perth’s first” description belongs to that opening-era coverage, not a verified claim about every venue operating today.
What can you do at Varsity Cannington?
The venue brings several activities together: visitors can bowl, play arcade games, watch sports, shoot pool, join quizzes, eat and drink, or enquire about functions. That mix makes it suited to a group outing where not everyone needs to spend the visit doing the same thing. The venue’s Cannington page lists its current activities and booking information.
Duckpin bowling
Duckpin is the venue’s distinctive bowling option. Varsity describes it as a faster game played with smaller balls than conventional ten-pin bowling. Varsity currently lists duckpin bowling at its Cannington and Whitfords venues. Its duckpin bowling page has details and a booking link.
Arcade
The arcade uses Varsity-specific reusable cards that can be loaded with game credits. Varsity also describes Timeplay and prizes; game selection, promotions and prize stock may change. See the arcade page for the operator’s current information.

Food, drinks and other activities
The Cannington page also lists sports, pool, quizzes and functions. Varsity promotes bowling bundles that pair lane time with food and drinks, with examples such as Date Night, Boozy Bowling, Family Jam and Jug Life. Treat these as examples rather than fixed offers: inclusions and prices can change, so check the live page and booking flow before choosing.
How many people can bowl in a lane?
Varsity’s stated maximum is five people per lane. A group of six or more will need to book multiple lanes if everyone is bowling. For groups larger than 20, Varsity directs visitors to its functions team. Confirm the available lanes and arrangements for your date through the booking flow or by contacting the venue.

Should you book, and what should you wear?
Varsity recommends booking for groups of four or more, noting that nightly specials can make the venue busy. This is the operator’s advice, not a statement that walk-ins cannot be accommodated. For a specific date, check availability before travelling.
Bowling-shoe hire is not required, according to Varsity: “Boots, sneakers, heels. Whatever you’re comfy in is good enough for us.” That is the venue’s footwear guidance; choose footwear you can safely move around in.

PerthNow’s report, published on 20 March 2024, described the opening as Varsity’s ninth outlet and Perth’s first opportunity to try duckpin bowling. It reported eight duckpin lanes, more than 50 arcade games and 88 beer taps at opening. Those are dated opening-era figures, not confirmation of today’s inventory. The Western Australian liquor-licensing application describes 10 planned duckpin lanes, but a planned configuration does not establish the as-built or current lane count. For current lane availability, rely on the booking flow rather than either historical figure.
