White called Sajak “like a brother” and a “true lifelong friend,” closing with: “I love you, Pat.” The farewell honored their partnership and friendship; it was not an announcement that White was leaving the show.
What did Vanna White say to Pat Sajak?
In the prerecorded tribute, White reflected on the years they had spent together on and off camera. “You’re like a brother to me and I consider you a true lifelong friend who I will always adore,” she said. She added that the memories they made with their families away from the studio meant the most to her: “As much fun as we had on camera, those memories, milestones and life events we shared with our families, outside the studio, are my favorite.”

White ended the tribute with a simple message: “I love you, Pat.” After the video, the two embraced onstage. The Associated Press reported that White said Sajak had helped her feel comfortable and confident when she began on the show.
When did the tribute air, and when was Sajak’s final episode?
The dates are easy to confuse because the tribute and the finale aired on consecutive nights:

- June 6, 2024: White’s prerecorded tribute aired during the episode the night before Sajak’s last regular hosting episode.
- June 7, 2024: Sajak’s final regular episode aired as the season 41 finale. It looked back on his tenure and ended with a message of gratitude.
The AP’s report on the finale said the episode opened with a clip from Sajak’s first episode as host in 1981. He thanked viewers, contestants, staff, crew and his family, recalling the privilege of being welcomed into viewers’ homes over many years.
Why did the farewell carry so much weight?
White and Sajak began working together on the syndicated show in 1982. AP reported in 2024 that they had appeared together in more than 8,000 episodes and described their partnership as spanning more than 40 years. Those figures are from contemporaneous reporting, not an independently audited episode count.

Their on-air ease was only part of White’s tribute. Sajak, in turn, called White his “professional other half” during the finale, according to AP.

No. The June 2024 farewell was about Sajak’s retirement from regular hosting, not White’s departure. Sajak announced his retirement in June 2023, and Ryan Seacrest was named as his successor. AP reported in 2024 that White’s contract ran through the 2025–26 season. That was the contract information reported at the time; it does not establish her status after that period.
