In April 2024, Valerie Bertinelli said she missed Food Network’s instructional, in-the-kitchen programming. She later clarified that she was not bashing the network: she wished it offered more actual cooking shows and remained grateful for her seven years working there. Her comments describe her view, not a verified analysis of Food Network’s schedule.
What Bertinelli said about Food Network
Bertinelli recalled falling in love with Food Network because of its “ITK (in the kitchen) shows.” She named 30 Minute Meals, Ina Garten, and Giada De Laurentiis among the programming and personalities from which she had learned. She wrote that it was sad that the network was “not about cooking and learning any longer.” USA Today reported her remarks in April 2024.

Her point was about the kind of programming she missed: shows focused on cooking and learning in the kitchen. The comment was an expression of nostalgia and opinion, rather than evidence that Food Network had stopped airing cooking programs.
Her clarification: she was not bashing the network
Days later, Bertinelli said she was not criticizing Food Network simply by wishing it had more “actual cooking shows.” She also said she would always be grateful for the seven years she worked for the network. Fox News reported her clarification.

#1 Best Overall
That follow-up matters: her remarks were a preference for more instructional cooking, not a claim of a feud with Food Network.

Food Network’s page for Valerie’s Home Cooking lists Season 14 and episodes centered on preparing meals, cooking for friends, and cooking along with fans. The page establishes that Bertinelli’s program was cooking-centered; it does not show how the network’s overall schedule changed over time.
Rank #2
The available accounts of her comments provide no year-by-year schedule comparison or figures for instructional cooking versus competition, travel, or other formats. So they support reporting what Bertinelli said, but not an objective conclusion that Food Network as a whole moved away from cooking.
