For that reason, November 18 is best described as the date attached to the event photograph, while the broader account is that this was Kilmer’s last reported public appearance. The available reporting does not establish that no later in-person public appearance occurred.
Who was with him?
His daughter Mercedes Kilmer accompanied him. The event-photo caption names Val and Mercedes together at the gala. They also worked together on later screen projects, but those projects are distinct from an in-person public appearance.

Why later films and documentaries are not later public appearances
ABC/GMA reported that Kilmer promoted Paydirt in 2020, his first film co-starring with Mercedes, and that his children Mercedes and Jack worked on the 2021 documentary Val, which Jack narrated. A film promotion, production credit, or documentary release is not itself evidence of a later in-person public appearance.

Kilmer died in Los Angeles on April 1, 2025, aged 65. The Associated Press reported pneumonia as the cause of death, citing information from Mercedes. That is family-attributed reporting in AP’s account. It should not be confused with Kilmer’s earlier throat-cancer diagnosis: ABC/GMA reported that he was diagnosed in 2014 and underwent a tracheotomy, while AP said he had recovered after the cancer diagnosis.
